The littoral around Parati is large and exquisite with its 65 islands and over 100 beaches. There are 21 peripherical communities in its bay area and around it as well. Many of them keep a traditional lifestyle depending on the fishery and subsistent agriculture. Others have become touristic attractions opening bars by the sea and using fishing boats to take tourists to boat rides. The greatest beneficiary of all are the tourists that can sail through the crystalline waters of Parati listening to stories and hints from fishermen such as Almir Tã, 48yo, born and raised in Araujo Island.
He first started fishing with his father by the age of 10 and has never looked back. Now he splits his time between fishing and tourism, besides the fact of being a respected and prolific artist. The route he suggests leads to the North of Paraty Bay and it’s less attended by tourists. The boat leaves Araujo Island in Praia Grande anchorage, another fishery community right in the front part of the Island.
The Canal between the Island and the continent is a safe harbor.
Many times placid and always beautiful.
